When doing makeup on a client I always start by asking them a few questions, 1. How they want to look? 2. What makeup, if any, they usually wear? and 3. If they have an idea in mind. Often clients will leave all the decisions up to the makeup artist, but the answers to these questions can be very telling.
Julia said she wanted to look hot, which wasn’t a ton of direction, but a better jumping off point than Amanda’s “clown” request. She also said that she almost never wears makeup but sometimes wears lipstick.
I started by evening out Julia’s skin tone with tinted moisturizer just in the needed areas and applying concealer to the under eye area. Even if you just apply concealer under your eyes this can dramatically lift and brighten your entire face.
Next I applied the light shade in the NARS Kalahari Duo to the lid from the lash line, blending above the crease.
Then I blended MAC Satin Taupe into and above the crease. Julia has pretty heavy lidded eyes so I blended this color slightly above the crease so it is still visible when she opens her eyes.
Next I applied MAC Blacktrack liner to her top lid, winging slightly at the corners, which gives the illusion of lift to the eye.
Last on the eyes, I blended Hollywoodland Eye Pencil into the inner corners.
I then applied a touch of blush onto her cheekbones.
I finished Julia’s look with Jungle Red NARS lipstick mixed with some chapstick. Julia’s skin tone would allow her to wear any shade of red, from orangey red to a deep blood red, but since this was about giving her a light daytime look I went with a medium, sheer color.
Julia wears glasses, which I had her remove for the purpose of the photos, but this look works super well to accentuate her eyes under her frames. I’m also a huge fan of lipstick with glasses!
Julia before.
Sometimes I want hair like this, but then I get scared.
